“Chennai Singams is not just a team, it’s an emotion” — Tamil Nadu’s Vignesh
All-rounder confident the team will go full distance this season
Chennai Singams have a special place in the hearts of cricket fans in Tamil Nadu, and quite naturally so.
It gets even better for fans when local talent features in the squad — two, in fact, this season — as last year’s semi-finalists look to go the distance in the second edition of the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL).
Singams kickstart their campaign against Falcon Risers Hyderabad on January 27, day two of the extended 21-day season at the Dadoji Konddev Stadium in Thane that promises more excitement for both the teams and players.
Tamil Nadu’s popular tennis ball cricket circuit will keenly follow the fortunes of Venkatachalapathi Vignesh, the talented all-rounder from Aranthangi in Pudukottai district, who will be looking to build on his success for the Yellows in the second season.
The 26-year-old played three matches in season 1, chipping in with three crucial wickets with his medium-pace and contributing usefully with the bat in the T10 league.
“It feels special to be playing for my home franchise. Singams is not just a team, it’s an emotion for the people of Chennai and Tamil Nadu,” said Vignesh, who pursued his passion for cricket while also graduating with a B.Sc in Information Technology, even captaining the JJ College of Arts & Science college team.
“I’ve been working on my bowling variations to give me an edge this season,” said Vignesh, who idolises England’s Ben Stokes.
“Cricket and the Chennai Singams taught me the importance of remaining persistent and committed. Keep working hard and never stop trying. Because, every effort teaches you something new and takes you closer to the next level,” Vignesh concluded.
